DESCRIPTION
It is a large portion of an ancient building that has belonged to an old patriarchal family for centuries.
In the 19th century, during the so-called "Estatatura", when the disease of malaria was rampant throughout the Maremma, the town of Scansano assumed, only for the summer months, the role of provincial capital.
The most important and representative offices of Grosseto were therefore transferred there. In this circumstance the palace in question became the seat of the city Prefecture.
The building was enlarged in the early 1900s. The forepart of via IV Novembre was then built by creating two rooms, later used as craft workshops, on the ground floor, the first floor apartment, intended for the servants' quarters and the large roof terrace above.
The internal cellars, once also stables for sheltering horses, as well as the clearing rooms were part of the old original building. The facade of via IV Novembre was built, in "Neoclassical" style, using large exposed-faced travertine stones from the quarry of the "Banditaccia" farm in Magliano in Toscana, owned by the family itself. The real estate units belonging to the same property are all communicating from inside the building.
They were permanently inhabited until the early 1960s, after which they were occasionally used as a summer residence. The main house or "manor house" has access from via della Botte through the main door crowned by the ancient stone portal.
Inside you can still find the original marble floors, slate stairs, rope handrails, vaulted ceilings. The terrace, in addition to being an excellent solarium, offers a panoramic view of the Maremma countryside in the direction of Saturnia, making the amenity of the place even more appreciated.
